Art History I: A Century of Modern Art discusses selected works of sixty influential artists, commenting on their personal histories and pointing out their distinctive styles and subjects. The programmes reveal the adventurousness of modern art as it evolved to meet a variety of creative challenges. The story begins with the French artist Edouard Manet's break from tradition in the 19^th Century (which earned him the title 'father of modern art') and continues through the Pop Art movement in America. To conclude each programme, the artists' work is reviewed before challenging students to identify examples on their own.
