The Resolving Conflict
Pocketbook
The Resolving Conflict Pocketbook
explains what conflict is, how to recognise signs of conflict, how
people react to it, how to develop strategies for dealing with it,
how to resolve difficulties and how to deal with bullying and
harassment.
Causes of conflict are numerous and
varied. Author Max Eggert's list includes distorted thinking (e.g.
over-generalisations), playing games (we've all played them!) and,
of course, the male-female divide. In looking at conflict within the
context of personality, Eggert draws on the seminal work of Myers
Briggs.
To resolve conflict, the book describes a
process that identifies where you are in the conflict cycle, what to
expect next and what you should be working towards. Conflict and
third party intervention (mediation and arbitration) is another area
dealt with, as is team conflict and conflict between different
departments and operational functions.
The Problem Behaviour
Pocketbook
You will buy The Problem Behaviour
Pocketbook whether you like it or not! The bully is one of a
number of bad behavioural types found in the workplace. There are
those that play the martyr ('I suppose I'll have to do it'), those
that only see things their way (described by the author as
'Narcissists'), saboteurs who do nothing (the so-called
'passive-aggressive' types), persistent fault-finders, clams and
chatterers, moaners, whiners, whingers and numerous others. The
author lists them all, identifies the likely causes and effects and
explains how to identify and deal with the problems.
The Discipline
Pocketbook
Unacceptable behaviour, substandard work,
poor morale, frequent absences, bad relationships, awkwardness …
The Discipline Pocketbook looks at the causes and how
you should respond. It stresses the importance of having fair and
consistent procedures and of finding the correct balance between
improvement and punishment. A practical approach, with case studies
and examples.
