The Self-managed
Development Pocketbook
The Self-managed Development
Pocketbook gives an overview of the increasingly important
process of self-managed development (SMD), in which individuals take
responsibility for, and control of, their own development. The book
looks at the reasons why SMD is growing in popularity and how it
fits into the other organisational processes. Attention is then
turned to the individual's role: raising self-awareness (using
techniques such as skills audits, performance reviews and SWOT),
reviewing self-perceptions (to increase awareness of new
possibilities) and, finally, action planning (setting objectives and
measuring commitment and motivation).
The Personal Success
Pocketbook
According to The Personal Success
Pocketbook the definition of success is different for each
person. But, however you define it there are ways to help you
achieve more of what you want from life. Author Paul Hayden, who has
also written the popular Learner's Pocketbook, stresses the need to
identify your personal motivators and drivers, and establish what
your priorities are. Then you can plan your goals, and the necessary
actions. The book is built around a 'Plan, Act, Review' structure,
and contains questionnaires and activities to get you
thinking.
Training Journal, which gave the Pocketbook
a 4-star recommendation, said in its review: 'A useful reference
source with lots of ideas and encouragement for those who are
intending to start (or to continue) on a path of
self-development'.
