Fair's

Equal opportunities for all
This programme
shows employees how all types of discrimination can and should be avoided in the
workplace.
About the
programme
This video demonstrates some of the common discrimination problems using
dramatised case studies. It shows that it may be wrong to treat everybody as if
they are the same, because people are individuals. And it may be equally as
wrong to treat them as different, either because of stereotypes or by judging
one aspect of their persona such as age and race.
Femi Otitoju, a leading authority on equal opportunities, takes us through five
clear examples.
 |
What can we do for him? Dealing
with physical disability and how easy it is to make assumptions about others
|
 |
Ron’s girls. How inappropriate
language about someone else’s gender or sexuality can be offensive and cruel,
even if we don’t realise it |
 |
Present company accepted… About
racial discrimination and the importance of non-verbal communication as well
as what people say |
 |
Can’t they take a joke? Covers the
issue of age and how jokes at the expense of individuals or groups can offend
|
 |
Jobs for the boys. Brings all the
issues together, when two women second-guess their organisation’s recruitment
strategy with nothing to go on but stereotypical assumptions |
The benefits
 | Case studies with/without commentary, and flexible written materials |
 | Sensitive treatment of a problem issue for all staff members |
 | Wide-ranging problems treated in a sensible, practical way |

A tale of 'O' -
Dealing with diversity in teams
The aim
To integrate all individuals into a team by promoting collective
understanding.

education, age or occupation. It demonstrates how to integrate non-traditional
employees into a team - avoiding sensitive issues in a non-threatening way.
The discussion that follows the video will be co-operative, and helps promote
understanding and personal effectiveness in work teams. Team members should
become more comfortable in their dealings with each other and thus work
together more productively.
The benefits
-Comprehensive resource and support materials for running five different
half-day courses

Working internationally is difficult and demands special skills to ensure
success. However, highly effective managers and professionals often under

internationally.
It covers:
 |
How conflicting assumptions about
communication style, feedback, task and relationship handling – if unmanaged –

to basic business variables |
 |
Provides a clear framework for
experienced and inexperienced international professionals to understand the
challenges and complexities of working in a world of difference |
 |
Helps to develop the practical
skills and attitudes required to work with differences, rather than against
them, in the pursuit of an organisation’s international goals |

Managing Diversity
The workplace is changing, reflecting the increasing
diversity of our communities. With these changes come new challenges. This
award-winning video takes a hard look at one of the most important issues of
our day. As more and more women and minorities enter the American workplace,
managing diversity is more than just "a sensitive issue." It requires a leap
to new levels of awareness. The task is not merely to deal with a diverse
workforce, but to capitalize on diversity. Managing Diversity reveals a range
of human perspectives on such issues as power, authority, communication and
performance. This enlightening film helps manager better understand the cause
and effect of varying viewpoints. It inspires open-mindedness and a
willingness to learn from those with diverse backgrounds. It offers strategies
for clearer two-way communications, more productive relationships and stronger
teamwork. And it provides guidance for bringing the values of the
organizational culture into focus, and into action. Managing Diversity
dramatizes problems and solutions in several scenarios involving differences
in gender, race and ethnicity. It presents practical solutions as the cast
models the attitudes and techniques for promoting increased understanding,
expanded participation, effective teamwork and the fullest expression of
individual potential.

personal values and behaviours are strongly influenced by differences in
gender, race and ethnicity |

THE DIFFERENCE: Diversity at work
Video 1: What the Photocopier saw
48 minutes of powerful and
entertaining drama scenes showing the costs and benefits of managing a diverse
team badly or well. The action revolves around the office photocopier, a
silent witness to countless everyday incidents revealing how the business
suffers when team members fail to treat each other with respect. This is a
subtle training video and there is little spoon feeding - because Diversity is
a subtle and complex subject. Users who want clear guidance about training
points will find it in the accompanying Training Manual. This is also a more
versatile training video than most - the scenes could contribute to training
in a number of other areas, including communication skills, team working and
supervisory skills.
Video 2: Real people: different people
Six people talk about the prejudices
and stereotypes they encounter at work because of their personal
characteristics: their age, gender, race, sexuality, disability or parental
responsibilities. Each has their own way of dealing with other people’s
attitudes towards them. For some, prejudice causes extra pressure to achieve.
Some are less able to work effectively because of the attitudes they meet. In
this 24 minute programme, we also hear about the positive benefits each of the
six brings to work by being ‘different’.
The videos / DVD come with a
comprehensive Training Manual, in print or on CD-ROM, structured to support
use by trainers or individual learners. Includes a detailed supplement about
the legal framework for diversity and equal opportunities.
Price: DVD £795.00, Rental £150.00
(prices exclude delivery & VAT).
