To show managers
the importance of adopting essential time-management and delegation skills.
The first two parts
of The unorganised manager series show that no matter how efficient
managers may think they are, they cannot be fully effective until they learn how
to manage their time.
In Part 1: damnation a hard-working manager is so disorganised that he
unwittingly makes the lives of his family and colleagues a misery. His
disorganisation leads to an early heart attack and a confrontation with St
Peter. By being given a second chance on Earth, he is able to learn the
principles of time management in a way that viewers, many of whom will be
unaware of their own faults, can easily relate to.
In Part 2: salvation the manager has returned to Earth full of
enthusiasm, but his inability to establish priorities and to delegate
effectively lands him back in front of St Peter. The programme shows why
managers should consider the actual purpose of their jobs, and not the function.
They must learn how to schedule time for active tasks, while leaving time for
reactive tasks. By delegating and retaining responsibility, they will make more
effective use of their own time and that of their team, and contribute to
everyone’s motivation and morale.

To show organised
managers the importance of organising their teams.
This video, which
picks up from the story in the first two parts of the series but can be used as
a stand-alone resource, shows how effective managers can create time to focus on
their teams.
The now organised manager is called to St Peter, this time following an annual
health check. Here he learns that his management style still leaves a lot to be
desired, since he is failing to organise his team. Through highly memorable
wrong-way, right-way scenarios, viewers will learn three steps to successful
delegation.
It is the manager’s role to ensure that each team member understands their
purpose. The manager must define and identify their overall objective and their
key result areas so that they know what is expected of them.
Individuals should be set standards to achieve, measurable either by quality,
quantity or cost, so that both they and the manager know how they are doing.
And managers must agree targets with individual team members in order to help
them develop and realise their potential, or to bring their performance back on
track.
Following the three steps, the manager will be able to improve the performance
and results of individuals, the team and the organisation.

To help
individuals focus on making the most of their time to the benefit of their
business and personal lives.
Not every
individual is a manager or can delegate work to others, and must learn that
making time work for them is a key lifeskill. This programme focuses on three
essential elements of time management in a practical, down-to-earth way:
prioritising and planning, dealing with people, and working procedures.
The drama shows some classic problems that crop up in any busy office, and how
they can reduce individual and team productivity if they’re not dealt with
correctly. One individual is totally unorganised; one is so organised that she
spends too much time rescheduling her personal organiser; and another is let
down by the first two people.
They realise that planning and prioritising are all necessary for their tasks,
and that even minor interruptions like phone calls have to be dealt with.
Learning to be assertive and saying ‘no’ are vital skills, and viewers will be
sent back to their desks determined to make every second count.
The benefits

Highly motivational drama addressed to individuals and team members at
every level |

Time
Challenged
takes a humorous, good-natured look at overcoming the challenges of
time management, as Kent works through his productivity dilemmas with a support
group of recovering time-challenged individuals.
At the core of this training is the fact that we all get the same 24 hours a
day, but how we use those hours greatly impacts our success or failure. Viewers
will explore how to tackle time head-on, learning how to prioritize tasks and
address common daily interruptions such as phone calls and e-mail.
Designed as a 1/2-day program, trainers will love how Time Challenged's
Leader's Guide provides interactive training during which participants learn
from one another much like the individuals they see on-screen.
They will gain the tools to:
 | Identify and take responsibility for time-management concerns |
 | Fend off casual, drop-in office visitors |
 | Maximize workspace through better organization |
 | Set time limits for projects and meetings |
 | Keep phone calls and emails from taking over their day |
 | Plan for the unexpected, while building in enough time for projects |
 | Set goals and prioritize each day's tasks |
 | Break down tasks into smaller segments, delegate to others |
Programmes includes: 21 minute video and support material on CD

Time Management
- Keeping The Monkey Off Your Back
The video opens
with a series of scenes that graphically illustrate just how easy it is to pick
up monkeys. What, exactly, is a monkey?
We hear the
voice of the late William Oncken, Jr., in an excerpt from one of his famous time
management seminars, define a monkey as 'a next move. And we learn that when
managers and supervisors take on too many monkeys, especially from their
employees, the system bogs down.
The video
focuses on five basic rules of monkey management:
 |
Monkeys shall be fed or shot.
You have to decide whether a monkey is worth further time and
effort. Some are not.
|
 |
The
monkey population shall be kept below the maximum number the supervisor has time
to feed. If you take on more than you can handle, nothing will get done.
|
 |
Every
monkey that leaves on a subordinate's back shall be covered by an insurance
policy. Effective delegation means appropriate assignments
and careful coaching.
|
 |
Monkeys
shall be fed on the initiative of the subordinate at the time and the place
specified in the feeding schedule. When you delegate, always
make a follow-up appointment to keep tabs on progress.
|
 |
Monkeys
shall be fed face-to-face or by telephone, but never by mail.
Paper generates more paper, and conversation is quicker. The
bottom line is that monkeys will always be with us-but they can be managed.
|
These simple
but effective rules will help managers and supervisors to do just that.
The
accompanying leader's guide provides easy-to-follow instructions for conducting
a brief training session after the showing of the video. Included are easy
exercises and thought- provoking discussion questions that will reinforce the
rules of monkey population management. The participant’s workbook, The Action
Planner, explores in greater depth some of the video's most vital points-and
shows participants how they can apply this valuable information to their own
work situations. With the aid of these comprehensive training materials,
managers and supervisors will quickly learn how to stop collecting monkeys-and
start controlling their time.

Time Management Double Film
Pack
Comprising 'The
Time of Your Life' and 'Tell My Wife I Won't Be Home for Dinner'
The Time of Your Life
The inspirational British remake of the classic training film, The Time of Your
Life, will motivate any manager to make better use of his or her time. Based on
Alan Lakein’s worldwide best-selling book, this film’s overriding message is
that time is life and to waste your time is to waste your life.
Learning points:
• list your goals, set your priorities using the ABC system
• make a daily ‘to do’ list
• start with A’s not with C’s
• use the focusing question: what’s the best use of my time right now?
• handle each piece of paper only once
• do it now, don’t procrastinate.
Tell My Wife I Won’t Be Home for Dinner
This entertaining film stars Wendy Craig, George Cole, Bernard Cribbins and
Miriam Karlin. It uses 3 humorous case studies designed to develop a better
understanding of time management.
First, the personnel manager in a toy company, who, by failing to plan and
delegate succeeds in becoming an unemployed busker.
Second, a distribution manager who thinks he’s busy. He is busy - making snap
decisions and misunderstanding priorities. Eventually his assistant shows him
the errors of his ways - just before she shows him the door and takes his job.
Third, a marketing manager in a confectionery company, who is obsessed with
detail, creating impressions rather than performances - planning for the sake of
it. Through the misuse of her own and her subordinates’ time, she is descending
the proverbial ladder of success.
This amusing collection demonstrates the full potential of effective time
management and shows that results are more important than hard work.
